About this event

This is the regular monthly meeting of the Delaware Valley Amateur Astronomers, held in the Radnorshire Room at the Radnor Community Building.  The meeting is open to DVAA members and the public.  We start with a short business meeting focusing on announcements and upcoming events, followed by a featured presentation.  We gather beginning at 7pm; the program and the livestream begin at 7:30pm.

The meeting will be livestreamed on our YouTube channel beginning at 7:30pm.

How to Unlock the Secrets of the Universe: A Glimpse into JWST Mission Operations

In just two years of collecting data, the James Webb Space Telescope has already facilitated huge astronomical discoveries and revealed the universe in stunning images. But how does this flagship mission run around the clock? The JWST Mission Operations Center is located in the heart of Baltimore City, in the same place that has housed Hubble science operations for nearly 35 years. This talk will describe how JWST is operated, from controllers completing day-to-day nominal activities, to a full team of engineers responding to an anomaly.
